Sense of Power

There were numerous probable reasons for America to use the atomic bomb when they did, and one of those reasons was the fact that they wanted to instill the thought that they were one of the most powerful countries in the world.

This paper shows the power of the atomic bomb, whether
exaggerated or not, the headline is sure to scare anyone
into thinking more about moving against the U.S.

Tsutoma Yamaguchi is a man who survived both atomic bombs. Seeing the devastation caused by both bombs, for decades to come Yamaguchi was still shaken by the trauma. He believed that every generation should know of the terrible damage and pain that the U.S.A. caused. He explains so in this article.

Harry S. Truman, the President of the United States that issued the executive order to drop the bombs, wrote in a letter to his wife,

"He [Stalin] doesn't know it but I have an ace in the hole and another one showing - so unless he has threes or two pair (and I know he has not) we are sitting all right."

This letter was written July 31, 1945, which was just a week before the first bomb was dropped. It is safe to assume that Truman was talking about the atomic bomb. This proves that to some degree, Truman used the bombs to intimidating the Soviets.

Headlines around the country proudly announced the bombings, gloatig about how the war had been ended and America's newly forged power with their "secret weapon."
